Pyrography Series

“Now there was a new reason why this flower took time to bloom, but it was a more fulfilling journey. This was not a wasteful venture of mental energy.

It was teaching the artist to be more mindful as the density of the wood shifted from one petal to the next. This would cause it to burn more or less easily with every movement, threatening to scratch when it hadn't before, or not leave a mark at all when it really needed to. From exploring how temperature influences the type and intensity of the burn created. These were all things the artist would get equally frustrated, and yet, excited about.

Pyrography was a new tool in the arsenal that pulled on the experience of years training in multiple mediums. It used similar line techniques to ink work, blooming like watercolor, pressure control like graphite or charcoal. The list goes on.

But most importantly, trusting the process and remembering the outcome is worth the pitfalls. The ugly moments would pass and give way to something beautiful.”
